Identification

International travel requires a passport valid for a minimum of six months past the date of your return. Additional documents may be required for some destinations and your Carlson Wagonlit Travel representative will provide further information if any special documentation is required. If you need to apply for, or renew, a passport, U.S. citizens should visit the U.S. Department of State website by clicking here.

It is the passenger's responsibility to know the personal documentation requirements needed for the travel destination(s) and to re-enter the United States. Carlson Wagonlit Travel is not responsible for denied boarding or any costs incurred or lost as a result of improper proof of identification.

Requirements for entry into South Africa

South Africa strictly enforces entry and exit requirements and other immigration laws. A valid passport with 2 consecutive empty passport pages are required to enter and depart South Africa. You will be denied entry and forced to return to your point of origin if you do not have two blank passport pages. Click here to visit the U.S. Department of State travel page for more information.

While there is no risk of yellow fever in South Africa, the South African government requires any travelers arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever to provide proof of a yellow fever vaccination. The group air block on South African Airways makes a stop in Dakar, Senegal, which is a country with risk of yellow fever. See the health section below for further information.

Requirements for entry to Zimbabwe (extension travelers only)

Zimbabwe requires a passport, visa, proof of a return ticket, and adequate funds to cover your stay in order to enter the country. When traveling to Zimbabwe for tourism, you may obtain your visa at the airport upon arrival. There is currently no option of obtaining the Zimbabwean tourist visa in advance. You can expect to pay $30USD for a 30-day/single entry visa. Payment for the visa is in cash; checks and credit/debit cards are not accepted.

Zimbabwe has implemented measures to stem the flow of U.S. dollars from the country due to their cash liquidity crisis. You should:

  • Bring sufficient cash for the duration of your trip
  • Depart the country with no more than $1,000, unless declared/documented upon entry
  • Pre-pay expenses such as hotels, flights, and tours by credit or debit card, which will be done for you since you are purchasing the extension package

Requirements for entry to Botswana (extension travelers only)

A passport that is valid for 6 months past your departure date as well as 3 consecutive empty passport pages are required to enter and depart Botswana. You will be denied entry and forced to return to your point of origin if you do not have three blank passport pages. Click here to visit the U.S. Department of State travel page for more information.

There is no visa required for entrance to Botswana, as U.S. citizens are permitted stays up to 90 days total within a 12-month period without a visa.

Health

Inoculations may be required for the destinations visited on this itinerary. As mentioned above, the group air flights connect in Senegal, which is a country with a risk of yellow fever. You are required to have a yellow fever vaccination and will need to carry the certificate with you as proof of this vaccination.

We encourage you to check with your physician as a precautionary measure for the most current information concerning travel health and safety recommendations. You can also check for recommended vaccines at the Centers for Disease Control website,
www.cdc.gov/travel.
